A Joint Project of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration/Johnson Space
Center,
the University of Houston, and the University of Houston Clear Lake
| Cooperation between the National Aeronautics and Space Administration-Johnson Space Center and the university community--the University of Houston and the University of Houston Clear Lake--achieved an apogee at the Johnson Space Center on Wednesday, October 2, 1996, when the Director of the Space Center, George W. S. Abbey, and the heads of the two campuses, UH President Glenn A. Goerke, and UH Clear Lake President William A. Staples, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) ensuring the highest level of research in space sciences, aerospace technology, and engineering. The afternoon signing ceremony was preceded by visits to research laboratory sites at NASA where post-doctoral scientists and engineers are conducting theoretical and applied research in consort with principal investigators from the Johnson Space Center and both UH campuses. |
At the stairs to the Space Shuttle trainer are Post-Doctoral Aerospace Fellows, beneficiaries of the MOU signed by NASA-JSC and two UH campuses: Huanin-Sheng Chen, Mike Dowell, Mike Grygier, Subash S. Jayawardena, Kallappa Koti, Eunjeung Lee, Cuauhtémoc Lemus, Graciela Lubertino-Rame, Karine Maillard, Eric Morano, Saumil Patel, Penny K. Riggs, Yail Vodovotz, and Jang-Horng Yu. |
| Post-Doctoral Fellows, Principal Investigators, and members of the State legislature were briefed at the laboratory sites on research in Space designed for extraterrestrial travel but with distinctive applications to Earth-bound ventures in health, animal and vegetable growth, and technology. |
